Playback stops when the screen is off
Some Android phones stop apps in the background to save battery. Allow Frekva to run without battery restrictions:
- Samsung: Settings › Apps › Frekva › Battery › Unrestricted.
- Xiaomi: Settings › Apps › Manage apps › Frekva › Battery saver › No restrictions.
- Huawei: Settings › Battery › App launch › Frekva › Manage manually, with all three switches on.
In Frekva, Settings › Help has a button that opens the right settings page.
A station doesn't work or has disappeared
We check every stream once a day. "Temporarily not working" means the station's own stream has been down for a while; it usually comes back by itself. "No longer available" means the station left Frekva.
If something looks wrong, open the station and tap "Report a problem".
Is Frekva free? Does it work offline?
Frekva is free, with no ads in the app and no account. Should we ever need ads to cover our costs, we will announce it in advance, and listening to stations stays free. Radio comes live over the internet, so it needs a connection: about 58 MB per hour at 128 kbit/s. Each station's data use is shown in its station info.
How do I move my favorites to a new phone?
On the old phone, open Settings › Export favorites and send yourself the link. On the new phone, open the link, or paste it in Settings › Import favorites.
Which countries are the stations from?
Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia and Slovenia, plus diaspora stations from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the USA, Sweden and other countries. In the app you can browse by country, city and genre, or simply search.
Is there an iPhone app?
Not yet. Frekva starts on Android (Google Play). The iPhone app follows later and will show the stations that have confirmed their place in Frekva, marked "Verified". Until then, you can listen on an iPhone in the browser, in the player on frekva.com.
Can I listen without installing the app?
Yes. The player on frekva.com plays live radio in any browser, on a computer or a phone, with no account. Favorites you add there stay in that browser. A few stations play only in the app, because their stream can't be played in a browser.
What does Frekva know about me?
Almost nothing: there is no account, no ads and no tracking. Your favorites and history stay on your phone or in your browser. The app only sends anonymous listening totals (which stations were heard and for how long, with no ID); you can turn this off in Settings › Anonymous listening numbers. The privacy policy has the details.
A station is missing
Tell us in Frekva under Settings › Suggest a missing station, or on the website: Add a radio station. We check every suggestion before it appears in the app.
How does a station get listed or removed?
Frekva lists the stations it finds in public radio directories and the ones listeners suggest, once their stream works. On For stations, a station can claim its listing for the "Verified" badge, update its details or ask to be removed; we review removal requests within two working days.
